DON'T BE EMBARRASSED TO TALK ABOUT BRAIN INJURY OR EMOTIONS

I totally understand why people, especially men of my age/generation, don’t feel able to address, or even talk about, emotional things!

It’s how we’ve been raised and those “habits” just do not go away!!

Think of the times you’ve heard

- “Boys don’t cry, stop being a baby!”

- “If you keep crying, I’ll give you something to cry about”

- “Oh, man up”

and then think how unfair it was, and how you felt INSIDE!!

Similarly, talking about brain injury is nothing to be ashamed of and having any form of brain injury is also not to be ashamed of, after all, did you choose it??

I am presenting on the effects and emotions “stirred” by brain injury and, being totally honest, it’s a leap of faith to stand in front of people “baring my soul” and my hope is that it will benefit people, especially, but not exclusively, men of a certain age.

As a result, hopefully, people will accept the “openness” and show it themselves as a badge of honour, rather than a “dirty secret that needs hiding”!

I truly believe that the way to rid yourself of those emotional issues is to

- admit TO YOURSELF you have them

- talk about, and share them

and, here’s a fact, you will soon find out that you’re not on your own, or unusual, as many others are going through the same thing!

So, if you are, or know people, suffering from emotional “problems” or a form of brain injury (such as dementia and just “old age” then get me along to present to you/them but, whatever you/they do

“JUST DON’T SUFFER IN SILENCE”
